Copycat Panera Macaroni and Cheese







What You'll Need



  • one quarter cup unsalted butter
  • one quarter cup all-purpose flour
  • one cup milk (I used skim)
  • two cups heavy cream
  • two cups shredded white cheddar (I used Cabot seriously sharp cheddar)
  • one half tsp kosher salt
  • one half tsp black pepper
  • one tsp dry mustard
  • one lb, pasta, cooked (cavatapppi, shells, or elbow)

How to Make It

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions while making the sauce.
  2. Drain and set aside until ready to use.
  3. In a large pot on medium high heat, add butter until melted.
  4. Whisk in the flour and cook for about one minute.
  5. Reduce heat to medium and add milk, heavy cream, salt, dry mustard and pepper.
  6. Continue whisking until it begins to bubble.
  7. Reduce to low and add white cheddar. Stir until melted.
  8. Add cooked pasta, stirring until combined.
  9. Remove from heat and allow to sit about five minutes to thicken.
  10. Season with additional salt and pepper if desired.
  11. ENJOY!
